Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is an STD which can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among younger men and women. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), most women with gonorrhea do not have any symptoms. Even when a woman has symptoms, they are often mild and can be mistaken for a bladder or vaginal infection. Women with gonorrhea are at risk of developing serious complications from the infection, even if they do not have any symptoms.
Symptoms in women may include:
• Painful or burning sensation when urinating
• Increased vaginal discharge
• Vaginal bleeding between periods
Gonorrhea can be treated and cured with antibiotics.
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is the most common STD. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), most women who have chlamydia have no symptoms. If you do have symptoms, they may not appear until several weeks after you have had sex with an infected partner. Even when chlamydia causes no symptoms, it can damage your reproductive system. If left untreated, chlamydia can affect a woman becoming pregnant.
Symptoms in women may include:
• An abnormal vaginal discharge
• A burning sensation when urinating
Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis, often call “Trich” is caused by a parasite.
Symptoms in women may include:
• A discharge from your vagina
• Pain when you have sex
• Pain when you pass urine
• Irritation or itching around your genitals
• Your partner has trichomoniasis or symptoms that might be trichomoniasis.
Trichomoniasis can be treated and cured with antibiotics.
No Symptoms - Still Get Tested - Here's Why
Having no symptoms does not mean you are free from a sexually transmitted disease. So, here are some facts you need to keep in mind:
• 50-80% of those infected don’t know it
• Those who know it, don’t often tell
• Infections with no symptoms can still be spread
